At Gutter Solutions NW, we’ve seen many products come onto the market and get a lot of publicity, but many don’t last. The reason? They don’t work! The same is true for foam gutter guards inserts, many of which are available to buy from a store and install yourself. Frankly, they’re a waste of money, and here’s why:
Polyether, polyurethane, blah blah blah – it’s all just foam! Even the highest-quality foam gutter guards will lose their surface level within a year or so and become gross and clogged up. Try draining rainwater through that junk. Plus, with the nature of their installation (they rest right inside the gutters themselves), all that gunk that it’s supposed to keep out of your gutters just sits and rests on top of the foam insert, essentially sweeping the problem under the rug. Anybody with half a brain knows that stainless steel mesh is more durable and reliable than foam, so why take the chance with a low-quality material gutter guard?
2. They Absorb Roof Oils
Foam gutter filters are petroleum-based, meaning that other oil-based stuff will be naturally attracted to them. Your asphalt shingle roof leaches oil and tar, so when it runs off your roof it’ll get caught in the foam gutter guard. Over time, they’ll build up in the foam and form a solid barrier, ensuring clogging and run-off. You’ll want a gutter guard with self-cleaning features and made from solid materials if you’re going to invest the money in a gutter guard solution.
1. They Don’t Save You Money
In the long run, there’s not much point in getting a foam gutter filter because they’ll need to be replaced in a very short amount of time! Sure, they’re easy and convenient because you can pick them up from a hardware store and put them in yourself, but why take shortcuts and potentially damage your gutters in the long run?
Trust the best – GutterDome! Made from high-quality stainless steel, these filters keep dirt, roof oil, leaves, twigs, small animals, and badminton birdies out of your gutters. Contact Gutter Solutions NW today for an estimate or to schedule an appointment!
